Yimomoyi 90 × 40 cm desk mat review: £10.07 very well spent

For years, I used a plain black mouse mat.

This seemed sensible. Black goes with everything, looks suitably serious and gives the impression that important work is taking place.

Unfortunately, it also displays every crumb, speck of dust and unexplained mark with the clarity of a forensic investigation.

When the old mat began looking increasingly tired, I decided that the replacement would be larger, less black and capable of accommodating the expanding collection of equipment on my desk.

I ordered the Yimomoyi 90 × 40 cm extended desk mat in the Plum Blossom Mountain Ink design on 10 July 2026 and paid £10.07.

It has turned out to be one of the simplest and most effective improvements I have made to the office.

I did not choose it because of a lifelong devotion to plum blossom

I had no particular design in mind.

I searched online for a large desk mat that was not plain black, looked attractive and would cover a useful amount of the desk. This one appeared, the mountain-and-blossom pattern looked good, and the price was low enough that the decision did not require a family meeting.

The design looks as good in real life as it did online.

The colours and printed detail are clear, and it adds a little character to a workspace otherwise dominated by black electronics, grey equipment and cables displaying no interest whatsoever in interior design.

It is decorative without making the desk look as though I have accidentally started working from a gift shop.

It arrived rolled but lay flat immediately

The mat arrived rolled up.

I expected the ends to curl for a while or require several heavy books and a period of quiet persuasion. Instead, it lay flat almost immediately.

There was also no strong rubber or chemical smell when it was opened.

This may sound like a small point, but some rubber-backed products announce their arrival to every room in the house. This one simply unrolled, behaved itself and began work.

That is more than can be said for the printer.

The size is the biggest advantage

At 90 × 40 cm, this is considerably larger than an ordinary mouse mat.

It provides enough room for:

• The Logitech ERGO K860 keyboard
• Two vertical mice
• A laptop
• My hands and elbows
• A reasonable amount of general desk activity

There is still space around the mat for other equipment, so it does not overwhelm the desk.

More importantly, it creates one clearly defined working area. Everything that needs a stable, comfortable surface sits on the mat, while the rest of the desk remains available for the assorted objects that appear during the day despite nobody remembering putting them there.

The size is about right for my setup. I might consider something slightly larger or smaller in future depending on the desk, but I would not return to a conventional little mouse mat.

After using this, an ordinary mouse mat begins to look less like office equipment and more like a sample.

Two computers and two mice are much easier to manage

I regularly use both a work laptop and a personal desktop.

Each computer has its own mouse, with one positioned on the left and one on the right. On the smaller black mat, this required more moving, rearranging and occasional wiggling of a mouse to discover which computer it was currently controlling.

With the larger mat, both mice can remain in position without getting in each other’s way.

I can move directly from one computer to the other without relocating equipment or attempting to operate a mouse on the bare desk.

This has removed a surprising amount of unnecessary faffing around.

It also means I can immediately tell which mouse belongs to which machine. Previously, there were moments when I would move one confidently, stare at the screen and wonder why nothing had happened.

The answer was usually that I had moved the wrong mouse rather than suffered a sudden technical failure.

The mat is also a central part of my complete dual-computer ergonomic desk setup.

The surface works very well

Both mice track smoothly and accurately across the surface.

I have compared the two devices separately in my Logitech MX Vertical versus TECKNET vertical mouse review.

Movement feels controlled, and I have noticed no jumping, sticking or inconsistent tracking.

The fabric has enough resistance to feel precise without making the mouse difficult to move. It works equally well with both vertical mice and provides plenty of room for large movements.

The mat also feels thicker than my previous ones. I would estimate it at roughly 5 or 6 mm, although I have not measured it precisely.

It is not excessively padded, but it is thick enough to make a noticeable difference when resting my wrists, hands or elbows on the desk.

It turns the working area into a slightly softer surface without giving the impression that the keyboard has been placed on a mattress.

It does not move around

The rubber underside grips the desk extremely well.

Normal mouse use, typing and leaning on the mat do not move it at all. In fact, deliberately adjusting its position requires lifting equipment and raising part of the mat rather than simply sliding it.

That makes it slightly inconvenient when I decide it should move half an inch, but this is preferable to a mat that gradually travels across the desk during the working day.

It stays where it is placed, which is precisely what a non-slip mat should do.

This should not feel noteworthy, yet plenty of products are named after qualities they only display under ideal laboratory conditions.

The stitching looks strong

The edges are stitched and currently look well finished.

There is no fraying, loose thread or sign that the edge is beginning to separate.

It has been used for less than a month, so this is not yet a long-term durability verdict. It would be unreasonable to praise it for surviving several years when it has so far survived several weeks and the occasional biscuit crumb.

However, the initial quality looks good, and nothing suggests that it has been cheaply assembled.

Cleaning has been easy so far

I have not washed it or had to deal with any serious spills.

There has been no coffee, tea or other liquid incident yet, so I cannot honestly say whether it is waterproof or particularly stain resistant.

So far, I have only wiped it with a dry cloth to remove crumbs and dust.

Everything has come away easily, and nothing appears to have become stuck in the fabric.

The patterned design also hides minor dust and marks far better than the old black mat did. This does not mean the desk is cleaner. It means the evidence is less prominently displayed.

That is close enough.

Has the print worn or faded?

Not so far.

The design still looks as it did when it arrived, with no visible fading, rubbing or damage.

Again, it has been used for less than a month, so the sensible conclusion is promising rather than proven for years.

The important point is that the print has not immediately begun deteriorating under the keyboard, mice or areas where my hands regularly rest.

Is there anything I dislike?

Not yet.

The mat lies flat, stays in position, looks attractive, gives both mice plenty of room and makes the whole desk easier to use.

There are no curled corners, strange smells, tracking problems or loose edges.

Its only possible drawback is that moving it deliberately requires lifting the equipment sitting on top because the underside grips so well.

That is rather like complaining that a door lock is inconvenient because it keeps the door locked.

Is it worth £10.07?

Absolutely.

It feels like a product that could reasonably have cost two, three or possibly several times what I paid.

The materials feel substantial, the print looks good, the stitched edge appears well made and the practical benefit has been much greater than expected.

It is difficult to improve an office setup meaningfully for just over £10.

Many office products cost a great deal more while contributing mainly another cable and a new reason to read an instruction manual.

This improved the desk as soon as it was unrolled.

Would I buy it again?

Yes.

I might choose another design simply for variety, but I would happily buy another mat of the same type, quality and approximate size.

The particular pattern is excellent, but the important features are the generous working area, smooth surface, strong grip and padded feel.

I would definitely choose another extended mat rather than returning to the small rectangular kind designed to accommodate one mouse and nothing else.

Verdict

The Yimomoyi 90 × 40 cm desk mat is attractive, comfortable and much more practical than the smaller black mat it replaced.

It arrived rolled but lay flat immediately, had no unpleasant smell and grips the desk extremely well. Both mice track smoothly, the stitched edge looks strong, and the patterned surface is considerably less enthusiastic about displaying every crumb.

The large size allows me to keep a keyboard, laptop and two mice on one continuous working surface, making it much easier to move between two computers.

It has only been in use for less than a month, so long-term wear and resistance to spilled drinks remain untested.

Everything I can assess so far, however, has been excellent.

For £10.07, it is one of the best-value improvements I have made to the office.
